Men's basketball dropped by Mercyhurst 82-61

Quigley sets new career high with 24 points

ERIE, Pa. – Wrapping up a five-day stretch in Pennsylvania, Binghamton men's basketball (3-10) fell to Mercyhurst (5-8) 82-61 Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers got out to a hot start with a 12-2 run in the first six minutes of the opening half and didn't hold back, shooting 54 percent from the field with 30 of their 42 points coming inside the paint. The Bearcats struggled to generate momentum and found themselves down 24 at the half.

"We weren't aggressive enough. We were super passive and just in our heads." head coach Levell Sanders said. "I think for me its just a mindset. We have to have a different mindset to start the game. Every game were starting, we're getting ourselves in the hole … whether its changing the lineup … we got to do something to give us a better start."

Binghamton came out of the half with some juice, shooting 60 percent with 11 points in the first five minutes of the second. Despite a stronger second half from the Bearcats, Mercyhurst stayed on the offensive front and won the turnover battle with just seven turnovers to Binghamton's 20.  The Lakers scored 20 points off of turnovers.

Jeremiah Quigley led the team in scoring with a new career high of 24 points. The junior guard also set a new career best at the free throw line, making 14-of-17. He also had four assists and four rebounds. Wes Peterson, Jr. provided 17 points and a new career high in rebounds with a team high of nine, just one shy of a double-double. Leading scorer and rebounder Demetrius Lilley was limited to six minutes due to an injury.

The Bearcats travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army on Tuesday and will return home to face Elmira College on Dec. 29 for their final non-conference game of the season.
