VESTAL, N.Y. -- America East highlighted its #SpreadRespect and #EndRacism initiatives with events at select basketball games throughout the month of February. The initiative raises awareness to ensure equality and safety for all student-athletes, coaches and fans without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. Binghamton University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members continue to spread awareness and education to ensure equality, respect and safety for all athletes without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity through social media and tabling efforts.
The Binghamton University Basketball Spread Respect home games included:
- Saturday, February 8 – Men's basketball vs. Bryant at 2:00pm
- Thursday, February 13 – Women's basketball vs. UMBC at 6:07pm
"The Spread Respect initiative is all about spreading respect, fostering inclusion, and promoting kindness in every aspect of life." said Ryaan Alshami, SAAC member and men's swimming student-athlete. "Being a student-athlete at Binghamton University, this aligns with all of our values as athletes when trying to elevate to the best possible version of ourselves in a respectful and fulfilling manner."
As part of #SpreadRespect nights, both teams will wear specially designed shooting shirts prior to all games again this year that support Spread Respect and End Racism messaging. All events will take place in February during Black History Month.
