ELON, N.C. - Freshman starter
Brady Bouchard fired six scoreless innings and Binghamton (2-3) plated runs in four of last five innings to blank host Elon (1-5) 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Latham Park.
Bouchard teamed with three relievers to stifle the Phoenix on six hits, continuing Binghamton's pitching stronghold over their CAA member hosts. In the first two games of the weekend series, Binghamton pitchers have notched 16 scoreless innings.
Binghamton snapped a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, two more in the seventh and two closing runs in the ninth.
Bouchard, meanwhile, allowed just four hits. He retired the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings, struck out a pair and didn't walk a batter. Freshmen
Aiden Milburn and
Ben Griffith and sophomore
Conner Griffin each pitched a scoreless frame to complete the shutout.
In the fifth inning, senior left fielder
Logan Haskell walked with two out and freshman center fielder
Matt Bolton plated him with an RBI double down the right field line. Senior third baseman
Devan Bade followed with an RBI double to right field and it gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
One inning later, senior right fielder
Zach Rogacki led off with a single and went to second on a walk to graduate first baseman
Freddy Forgione. Rogacki then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by junior second baseman
Zack Kent to make it 3-0.
In the seventh, Bolton reached base on a hit-by-pitch with one out. After a Bade walk, senior catcher
Evin Sullivan delivered an RBI single up the middle. Bade scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
The Bearcats closed the scoring in the ninth on an RBI double by junior shortstop
Mike Stellrecht and a balk.
Kent, Bade and Sullivan each collected two hits and an RBI. Rogacki also had two hits and made a fantastic, diving catch in right center in the bottom of the eighth inning. Seven players had at least one hit and five picked up RBIs.
The teams close out the weekend set at noon on Sunday. Junior right-hander
Colin Rhein takes the hill for the Bearcats.
