Women’s Basketball Falls to Maine 53-54

Weltz adds 13 points, Goode adds 10 points

ORONO, Maine – Caroline Dotsey made the game-winning layup with two seconds remaining in regulation, as Maine (13-14, 8-6 AE) rallied for a 54-53 win over Binghamton (14-14, 6-9 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center. The game marked the Bearcats' final regular-season road contest of the year.

Dotsey's shot capped a 16-3 Black Bear run over the final 5:14 of regulation. On the ensuing possession, Binghamton got off a half-court shot but it fell short of the basket.

For the Bearcats, junior guard Jadyn Weltz finished with a game-high 13 points, followed by junior Kaia Goode with 10 points. Sophomore forward Kendall Bennett posted a team high eight rebounds while sophomore guard Bella Pucci recorded four steals.

Binghamton used a 9-0 run to take a 13-6 lead with three minutes left in the first period. Weltz had seven of her points during that stretch.

Both teams went on nine-point runs during the second and third periods. In the end, the Bearcats' took a 29-25 lead with nine minutes left to go in the third period.

In the third third period alone, Binghamton outscored Maine 17-9 to go up 43-34. As a team, the Bearcats shot 8-of-12 (.667) from the field during that stretch.

That set the stage, however, for the Black Bears' comeback during the fourth and final period.

Sera Hodgson led the Black Bears with 12 points, followed by Asta Blauenfeldt with 11 points.

Binghamton returns home this coming Saturday for its annual Senior Day Game against UMass Lowell. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
