Women’s Basketball Wins 65-52 at UMass Lowell

Goode nets game-high 16 points, Middleton notches double-double

LOWELL, Mass. – Junior guard Kaia Goode scored a game-high 16 points and sophomore guard Leah Middleton finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, leading Binghamton (12-11, 4-6 AE) to a 65-52 win over UMass Lowell (3-19, 1-9 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Thursday evening at Costello Center. The contest marked the first of two straight road games for the Bearcats.

Goode was 5-of-11 from the field, swished a pair of three-point field goals and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. She also added five rebounds and four assists.

Middleton, meanwhile, turned in her first career double-double. She also finished with career highs in rebounds, assists (five) and steals.

Binghamton came out strong, taking a 22-11 lead after one period of play. Goode had nine of her points during that stretch and the Bearcats closed out the last 3:11 of the quarter on a 12-3 run.

The River Hawks got to within 35-30 on a jumper by Abbey Lindsey with 7:41 left in the third period. From there, however, Binghamton went on a 9-2 run in a stretch of 3:40 to go up 44-32 with 4:01 left in the period. Junior forward Camryn Fauria and redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz each drained three-point field goals during that spurt.

Nursing a 53-47 lead at the 6:07 mark of the fourth period, the Bearcats got back-to-back three pointers from Middleton and Goode to go up by 12 points with 5:21 left in regulation.

"I felt that every time UMass Lowell made a run, we responded very well," head coach Mary Grimes said. "They play for 40 minutes and give it everything they got but we were able to withstand that today."

Sophomore forward Kendall Bennett and sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd each scored eight points. From beyond the arc, Boyd was 2-for-3.

Abbey Lindsey led the River Hawks with 13 points while Maddie Rice netted 10 points.

Binghamton tied a season high with six blocked shots - four of which were recorded by freshman center Abby Misier. Her four blocks represent the highest total by a Binghamton player this season.

Sophomore guard Bella Pucci chipped in five points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal.

As a team, the Bearcats shot 47.9 percent from the field (23-of-48) and drained eight three point shots. At the free throw line, Binghamton was 11-of-14 (78.6).

On the boards, Binghamton held a 36-27 rebounding advantage - 11 of which came on the offensive end of the court.

Binghamton heads to Bryant on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game.
