JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Host East Tennessee State (7-2) belted four home runs and pulled away from Binghamton baseball (3-5) 13-5 Saturday afternoon at Thomas Stadium.
The Bucs twice erased early Binghamton leads as the teams combined to score 14 runs in the first four innings. But ETSU shook off a 4-3 Bearcats edge with four runs in the third and added three more in the fourth to reach double figures.
Binghamton was held to seven hits – four by senior third baseman
Devan Bade, who hit a pair of solo home runs in his best game of the spring. Bade opened the scoring with a two-out solo home run in the first inning and added a leadoff shot in the eighth.
Down 3-1, Binghamton battled back to take the lead with three runs in the third. Freshman center fielder
Matt Bolton ripped a two-run home run, his second of the season, after senior left fielder
Logan Haskell was hit by a pitch. Bolton sent an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left center for a 4-3 lead.
But ETSU answered in the bottom of the frame after six straight home hitters reached with two out. A three-run Bucs home run in the next inning extended the lead and ETSU wound up scoring in six of eight innings.
The two teams play again at noon on Sunday.
