Women’s Lacrosse Outlasts Marist, 8-7

Blloshmi posts six goals, Sayre with 12 saves in victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (2-3) outlasted Marist (1-5), 8-7, Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Jess Robinson netted her first career goal off an assist from Christiana Mastrorocco to start off scoring less than a minute into the first quarter. Marist scored the equalizer two minutes later before Binghamton notched four unanswered goals, three from Emma Blloshmi, to end the frame up 5-1.

The Red Foxes found the back of the net twice in the second quarter to cut the Bearcats lead to two. Blloshmi registered her fourth goal of the afternoon with 9:54 left to extend Binghamton's advantage to three. Marist responded with a 3-0 run to tie up the contest at six with eight minutes left in quarter three. 

Blloshmi tallied the lone goal for the Bearcats in the third frame next, retaking the lead, 7-6. The Red Foxes tied it up at seven before Blloshmi scored the game-winning goal at 7:37 in the fourth quarter, her sixth of the day. 

Maeve Sayre recorded two saves off free position shots in the final five minutes of play to seal the 8-7 victory for the Bearcats.

GAME NOTES 
  • Emma Blloshmi netted a career-high six goals over Marist, her fifth consecutive game with three or more goals. Blloshmi's 20 goals this season ties for ninth best in the nation. 
  • Blloshmi went 3-5 from the eight-meter mark vs. Marist to bring her free position goals season total to nine for third best in the country. The junior also ranks third nationally with 1.8 free position goals per game. 
  • Maeve Sayre tallied a personal-best 12 saves against the Red Foxes for her second decision of the season. The sophomore held Marist to zero goals on seven free position shots. Sayre ranks third among America East goalies with a .451 saves percentage and 8.20 saves per game. 
  • Jess Robinson scored her first career goal for Binghamton to start off the first quarter. Robinson recorded nine assists in 13 previous appearances. 
  • Christiana Mastrorocco registered a goal and an assist this afternoon, her second, two-point performance of the season after equaling the total against Colgate, Feb. 12
  • Binghamton posted a season-high 21 clears on 22 attempts against Marist.
