Softball Hosts UAlbany in DH Saturday at Noon

Sunday’s series finale canceled due to impending weather

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (14-9) took two out of three games at Mercer this past weekend. Junior first baseman Emma Lawson hit a team-best .400 (4-for-10) during the series while freshman designated player Rachel Carey, senior third baseman Sarah Rende and sophomore catcher Elisa Allen each belted a home run. Allen's homer was a grand slam in the series finale on Saturday.

- Lawson leads the Bearcats and ranks second in the America East with a .368 batting average. She is also second in the conference in on-base percentage (.436), seventh in slugging percentage (.515), first with seven doubles and is second with 18 RBI. Allen, meanwhile, leads the America East with six home runs and 21 RBI.

- Graduate student outfielder Brianna Santos ranks sixth in the America East in batting (.342) and is tied for first with 15 runs scored. Fellow graduate student outfielder Lindsey Walter is fourth with 14 runs and junior outfielder Bella Farina is fifth with 12 runs scored.

- On the mound, junior pitcher Brianna Roberts is 8-2 with a 1.98 ERA. She ranks first in the America East in both victories and ERA and is tied for second in strikeouts (56) with fellow junior pitcher Olivia Kennedy. Sophomore pitcher Delaney Glover, meanwhile, is fifth with a 3.30 ERA.

- As a team, Binghamton leads the America East in ERA (2.95) and fielding (.967). The Bearcats also rank second in batting (.247) and are tied for first with 3.95 runs per game.

- Binghamton was ranked No. 25 in the D1softball.com Mid Major Poll on March 5. The Bearcats' current RPI is No. 85 out of 309 Division I softball programs. Binghamton has faced a pair of nationally-ranked opponents (Florida and Duke) so far this season.

- UAlbany (7-13) split a non-conference doubleheader at Army on Wednesday. The Great Danes won the opener 1-0 in eight innings but were edged 4-3 in the nightcap. Kate Powers tossed a seven-hit shutout in the first game against the Black Knights.

- The Great Danes swept all three America East weekly awards this past week. Hayley Wieczerzak repeated as the Pitcher of the Week while Taylor Quinn earned the Player of the Week honor and Ava Beal was chosen as the top rookie.

- Beal leads UAlbany and ranks fourth in the conference with a .364 batting average while Quinn ranks first with three triples. Pitcher Kate Powers ranks fourth with a 2.98 ERA while Wieczerzak is sixth (3.76). Powers also leads the Great Dane's pitching staff with a 4-2 record.

- As a team, UAlbany is second in both ERA (3.90) and fielding percentage (.960) in the America East. The Great Danes are also third in batting (.244).

- Since both programs moved up to the Division level in 2001, UAlbany holds a 52-19 lead in the all-time series. Last season, the Great Danes took two out of three games at home and also defeated the Bearcats 6-3 in the second round of the America East Tournament.

- In the last meeting between the two teams at the Bearcats Sports Complex, Binghamton took two of three games April 8-9, 2023. Dating back to the 2021 season, the Bearcats have won four of the last seven times they have played against UAlbany.

Fourth-year head coach Jess Bump has gone 100-70 at her alma mater. She is one of only three coaches in Binghamton program history to win at least 100 games - a feat she accomplished against Mercer on March 15.
