Baseball drops doubleheader at Missouri

Bolton collects five hits on day; Bearcats lose 16-6 and 4-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. – One night after defeating Missouri in extra innings, Binghamton baseball (4-8) dropped a doubleheader to its SEC hosts, 16-6 and 4-2 Saturday at Taylor Stadium.

The second game wasn't decided until the Tigers (8-7) scored two runs in the seventh inning to snap a 2-2 tie. Each team collected eight hits.

Binghamton rallied from 2-0 down with two runs in the top of the sixth. Senior third baseman Devan Bade led off with a walk and senior DH Evin Sullivan belted a double to right field. Graduate first baseman Freddy Forgione delivered an RBI single through the left side and Sullivan scored on a wild pitch to tie it.

But one inning later, Missouri used a walk and three singles to score the final two runs.

Freshman center fielder Matt Bolton went 3-for-4 and Forgione was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman Vincent Luther worked 4.0 innings in his first collegiate start. He scattered three hits and two runs.

In the opener, Missouri broke away from a 2-2 tie with a 13-run fourth inning. The Tigers ripped three home runs and amassed 10 hits in the frame.

Binghamton chipped away with two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't complete the climb.

Bolton had two hits and two RBI and freshman right fielder Sam Miller added two hits and an RBI.

The teams close out their four-game set at 2 p.m. Sunday.
