Bearcats turn in five individual runner-up finishers, one school record

BOSTON, Mass. – Graduate student Penelope Paldino broke the pentathlon school record and set a meet record, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships, which took place Friday-Sunday at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. In the final team standings, the Bearcat women were fifth among all scoring teams while the men tied for 19th place.

Two weeks after earning a runner-up finish in the pentathlon at the America East Championships, Paldino duplicated her place this weekend. In addition, her score of 3,560 points eclipsed the 2015 Binghamton school record of 3,512 points, which was set by Daniella Olusoga. Furthermore, Paldino's 60 hurdles time (in the pentathlon) of 8.50 broke the meet record of 8.54, which was set by Arlene Zalinskas of Liberty back in 2007.

Paldino was one of five runner-up finishers for the Bearcat women this weekend. She was joined by fellow graduate student Jenna Chan in the long jump (18-2 ¼), junior Alyssa Armitage in the pole vault (12-7 ½), fellow junior Lucciana Robertson in the high jump (5-6) as well as graduate student Gianna Hoose in the weight throw (58-3). Armitage, Robertson and Hoose each earned all-conference honors two weeks ago in the same events while Chan won the women's 60 hurdles title for the third time in four years.

The top Binghamton finisher on the men's side was sophomore Matthew Oluwole, who was third in the high jump (6-7).  Sophomore Marcus Nahim was sixth in the 60 (7.01) and eighth in the 200 (21.82) while freshman Caleb Alexandre was sixth in the 200 (21.51). Oluwole was the runner up in the same event at the America East Championships two weeks ago.

The rest of the Bearcats' Top-8 finishers this weekend all came on the women's side. Junior Logan Wheeler was fourth in the pentathlon (2,968 points), sophomore Carlea Davis was sixth in the triple jump (37-3) while graduate student Caroline Fatta was eighth in the pole vault (11-1 ¾). Each of them also scored in the Top-8 in their events at the indoor conference meet.
