Women’s Lacrosse Dealt Double Overtime Loss by Brown

Blloshmi posts five goals and one assist for third consecutive six-point game

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (2-5) fell short in double overtime to Brown (5-1), 13-12, Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Brown netted back-to-back goals to open up first quarter action before Binghamton recorded three consecutive scores from Emma Blloshmi and Carla Curth to grab a 3-2 lead. The Bears found the back of the net once more to end the first frame tied at three. 

Brown registered two goals to start the second quarter to retake the advantage, 5-3. The Bearcats put up another 3-0 run next, on scores from Olivia Muscolino, Mia Forte and Blloshmi, to lead by one with 8:09 remaining. Brown posted the equalizer to level the contest once again until Jess Robinson scored with one second left in the half to lead 7-6. 

Binghamton continued its momentum in the third quarter, shutting out Brown's offense and notching its third, 3-0 run of the afternoon to own a 10-6 advantage.The Bears scored once more in the fourth frame before Muscolino completed her hat trick to bring the Bearcats' edge to four. 

Brown rallied for five goals in the next six minutes to take a 12-11 lead with 2:47 minutes remaining in regulation. Curth tallied her second goal of the afternoon with 18 seconds left to send the game into overtime tied at 12. 

After the first overtime period went scoreless, the Bears netted the game-winning goal off a free position attempt with three seconds left in double overtime to win, 13-12. 

GAME NOTES 
  • Emma Blloshmi posted her third consecutive six-point game against Brown with five goals and one assist. The junior has recorded a hat trick or better in all seven of Binghamton's games this spring. Blloshmi's 4.3 goals per game ranks eighth nationally. 
  • Blloshmi converted on all five of her free position attempts this afternoon. Sixteen of the attackers' 30 goals this season came from the eight-meter line. Blloshmi sits second in the country with 2.3 free position goals per game. 
  • Olivia Muscolino registered her second hat trick of the season with three goals and one assist vs. Brown. The performance is the 25th of her Bearcat career with three or more scores. 
  • Carla Curth notched her second consecutive three-point game with two goals and one assist against the Bears. 
  • Maryn Savage recorded a career-best three caused turnovers to lead the Bearcats this afternoon. She also collected a team-best three ground balls. 
  • Sofia Salgado made her first appearance in goal for Binghamton this spring with nine saves against Brown.

Binghamton travels to Riverdale, N.Y., for a contest at Manhattan, Wednesday, March 12. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
