VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team begins its final month of the regular season by welcoming defending America East Conference champion UAlbany to the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday at 3 p.m. All of Binghamton's home men's lacrosse games this season include free admission on behalf of
Station 45 American Chop House.
Saturday's contest is also the JR Gaudet Youth Game. Gaudet played for Binghamton from 2003-04, scoring five goals, recording five assists, collecting 10 ground balls and winning four faceoffs in 13 games while helping the Bearcats win their first America East regular season championship in 2004. Gaudet went on to coach a variety of youth sports in the Binghamton area, including lacrosse. Through his dedication to youth lacrosse, he shaped the lives of many players, teaching not just the game, but the values of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
Following the end of Saturday's game, in celebration of JR Gaudet's dedication to youth lacrosse, fans under the age of 13 are invited to take the field to Pass with a Player. Binghamton men's lacrosse players will be available to pass a lacrosse ball with eligible youth who wish to participate. About Binghamton
- The Bearcats had their four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of No. 12 Harvard on Saturday, March 29, when the Crimson won 17-12 in the first-ever matchup between the two programs. Gage Adams kept it close for the Bearcats with five goals and an assist, while Liam Ferris added four goals and two assists.
- Binghamton looks to remain in first place in the America East as the Bearcats sit atop the standings with a league record of 2-0. The last remaining unbeaten team in America East play, the Bearcats are ahead of second place Bryant, UMBC, and Vermont, who are each 2-1 against conference opponents.
- Adams gained ground on multiple all-time rankings for Binghamton men's lacrosse. With his five goals facing Harvard's defense, the senior is up to 72 for his career at Binghamton, bringing him up to the fourth-most in program history after he passed Kevin Winkoff's 70. Adams also registered the 12th hat trick of his Binghamton career on Saturday, putting him in a tie with Michael Antinozzi for the third-most in program history.
- Ferris recorded his 10th hat trick with the Bearcats against the Crimson, which moves him into sole possession of the fourth-most in program history, as he passed Tom Moore's nine.
- Connor Winters was named Goalkeeper of the Week by the America East Conference on Monday after putting together two of his best performances of the season last week. The netminder first made what was at the time a season-high 17 saves and led Binghamton with six ground balls to help the Bearcats defeat St. Bonaventure in overtime 6-5 on Tuesday. He followed that up by setting a new season high with 19 saves while collecting an additional three ground balls against Harvard.
- Nolan Sharkey shined on defense for Binghamton against the Crimson, leading all players in caused turnovers (5) and tying for the lead in ground balls (5). The five caused turnovers are not only a career high for the sophomore, but they are also the most recorded in a game by a Binghamton player this season. The sophomore ranks second in the America East in caused turnovers per game at 1.67.
About UAlbany
- The Great Danes enter Saturday having lost four of their last five games. During that stretch, UAlbany fell to both Bryant (12-11) and UMBC (13-12) by one goal each.
- The last time the Great Danes took the field, they were defeated by No. 1 Cornell 18-11 on Tuesday. Silas Richmond led UAlbany with four goals, while Ryan Doherty added two.
- Richmond's four goals against the Big Red came after he was named America East Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The attackman recorded three goals and three assists in UAlbany's 17-6 win at home versus UMass Lowell on March 29. He ranks second in the America East in goals with 24, only trailing Doherty's 27, while also leading the league in assists with 24.
- Jacob Smith was chosen as the America East Defensive Player of the Week. In UAlbany's win over UMass Lowell, the defender collected four ground balls, caused two turnovers and recorded an assist. Smith is fourth in the America East in caused turnovers per game at 1.27, just behind teammate Max Neeson, who is third at 1.36.
