Men’s Lacrosse’s Season Ends in Overtime of America East Semifinals

Bearcats are defeated by Bryant 10-9 to be eliminated from America East Men’s Lacrosse Championship

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team's 2025 season came to an end Thursday as the Bearcats were defeated in overtime by Bryant 10-9 in the semifinals of the America East Men's Lacrosse Championship at Beirne Stadium.

Colin DeLay recorded his first collegiate hat trick with three goals, while Liam Ferris added two tallies and two assists for Binghamton. Connor Winters also made 11 saves in goal for the Bearcats. However, Brian Russell scored four goals for Bryant, including the game-winning tally in overtime to help the Bulldogs advance to the championship game.

Binghamton had to dig itself out of a 3-0 deficit as Bryant went ahead early in the first quarter on two goals by Russell and one from Jack Lonsinger. The Bearcats closed out the quarter with momentum when at 3:58 when Ferris fired in his 35th goal of the season.

Down 3-1 in the second, the Bearcats continued to chip away at the deficit when Nolan Sharkey got a pass from Ferris near the crease and scored his third goal of the season at 13:54 to bring it to 3-2. The Bulldogs countered with four of the next five goals, two of which came from Dawson Rielly, to go up 7-3. Dan Garone recorded the lone goal for the Bearcats during that run at 5:48.

But just like in the first quarter, Binghamton would gain momentum at the frame. After Winters made a save on a shot by Sam Klein with 12 seconds remaining, the Bearcats got control of the ball. Riley Jenkins then sprinted down the field and maneuvered around defenders before beating the buzzer with his second goal of the year, allowing Binghamton to bring the game to 7-4 heading into halftime.

Much like the regular season matchup between these two teams nearly two weeks ago, Binghamton made its run in the second half. DeLay played a major role in the rally, as he opened the third quarter with his first goal of the day at 7:28. Following a tally from Rielly at 6:23, the Bearcats scored the next four goals between the third and fourth quarters. DeLay scored two of those goals, one in the third and one in the fourth, while Ferris posted one in the third and Gage Adams scored his first of the day at 6:18 in the fourth. Adams' goal gave Binghamton its first lead of the day at 9-8. Just over two minutes later, Bryant tied it up on a goal by Lonsinger with 4:14 left. Neither team was able to retake the lead in regulation, bringing this semifinal matchup to overtime.

Bryant won the opening faceoff in the extra frame and never gave the ball back. 41 seconds later, Russell went around the back of the net before scoring the game-winning-goal to end Binghamton's season.

Other Notes
•    With his two goals, Ferris moves up to 68 for his Binghamton career, passing Phil Cavallo for sole possession of the sixth-most in Binghamton men's lacrosse history. His 36 goals in 2025 are also tied for the fifth-most in a season in program history along with Matt Springer's 36 from 2013.
•    Adams also added one to his career total to finish his time with the Bearcats with 78, the fifth-most in program history. His 107 career points (78 goals, 29 assists) are also the eighth-most by a Bearcat in program history.
•    Winters ends the season with 169 saves, the third-most in a season in program history. His 194 in 2023 remain the most by a Bearcat in a year. The netminder, who became Binghamton's all-time leader in career saves during the Bearcats' previous game against Vermont on April 26, now has 530 in three seasons.
