Softball Travels to Oregon NCAA Regional

Bearcats open up against Stanford on Friday at 5 pm. EST

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (36-12) is making its second appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament and its first since 2015. The Bearcats punched their ticket by winning the America East Tournament this past weekend at home. 


- The Bearcats are the No. 3 seed in the Oregon Regional and face No. 2 Stanford on Friday at 5 pm. EST on ESPN+. The host Ducks are the top seed in the region and face No. 4 Weber State in the second game of the day. The NCAA Regional has a double-elimination format.

- This weekend marks the first time that Binghamton faces Stanford, Oregon and Weber State.

- In its only previous trip to the NCAA Tournament, Binghamton was the No. 4 seed in the 2015 James Madison Regional. The Bearcats met the top-ranked Dukes as well as third-seeded Fordham during that weekend.

- The Bearcats are currently ranked No. 23 in the D1Softball.com Mid-Major Poll. Binghamton's current RPI is No. 72 out of 309 programs.

- The Bearcats' 36 victories is the second most in program history. Binghamton won 37 games back in 1997.

- Binghamton has been competing at the NCAA Division I level since the 2001-02 academic year. Up until 1997, the athletic department competed at the NCAA Division III level. From 1998-01, Binghamton was at the Division II level. Known then as the Colonials, Binghamton advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998. 

- Junior pitcher Brianna Roberts was named both the America East Pitcher of the Year as well as the Most Outstanding Player in the conference tournament this past weekend. She is currently 21-2 with a 1.98 ERA. On the national level, she is No. 19 in wins, No. 34 in ERA, No. 11 with six shutouts and No. 40 with 5.16 hits allowed per seven innings.

- Sophomore catcher Elisa Allen - the newly minted America East Player of the Year - is batting .302 with 23 home runs and 56 RBI. On the national level, she is currently third with 0.41 home runs per game, No. 20 with an .884 slugging percentage as well as No. 24 with 1.17 RBI per game.

- Binghamton as a team is ranked No. 16 in the nation with a 2.56 ERA and No. 18 with 1.42 home runs per game. The Bearcats are also No. 22 with a .750 winning percentage, No. 24 with 6.66 strikeouts per seven innings and No. 30 with a .528 slugging percentage. 

- Joining Roberts and Allen as first-team America East all-conference selections are freshman designated player Rachel Carey, junior pitcher Olivia Kennedy, junior first baseman Emma Lawson as well as graduate student outfielders Lindsey Walter and Brianna Santos. Lawson ranks No. 41 in the nation with 0.31 doubles per game, Santos is the second-toughest batter in the nation to strikeout (84.5) and Kennedy is No. 39 with 7.2 strikeouts per seven innings.

Against Fordham on March 7, Binghamton came from six runs down (7-1) to win 8-7. It marked the largest comeback during the Bearcats' 24-year Division I era.
