GENEVA, Ohio – 10 Binghamton wrestlers competed in the freestyle portion of the U23 Nationals, which began Saturday at the SPIRE Academy. Nine of those wrestlers, who represented the Bearcat Wrestling Club, went on to win at least one match. Leading the group was Carson Wagner as he advanced to the quarterfinals.
 
Highlights

• After receiving a bye into the second round, Wagner won his first two matches of the day via a technical fall, defeating Kade Orr 11-1 and Nico Tocci 10-0. For his final match, Wagner prevailed in a back-and-forth battle with Damian Moreno. With both wrestlers tied at nine at the end of the match, Wagner advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to leading by criteria.
• Marco Albanese won four matches on Saturday, the most out of any Bearcat wrestler. He won his first two matches of the day to reach the fourth round of the 74 kg. bracket, and then came out victorious in two more matches in the consolation bracket before being eliminated.
• Ryan Hartung was victorious in three matches, making it all the way to the third round of the 65 kg. bracket. Hartung defeated Seamus Mack, Desmond Diggs and Conner Heckman via a decision.
• Dillon Arrick, Deakon Bailey, Jordan Brown and Jack Kazalas each won two matches on Saturday.
