Catcher taken in ninth round by Rockies, becomes school's highest position player draft pick in 35 years

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball catcher Zach Rogacki has been selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. Rogacki was taken in the ninth round Monday afternoon and will report to the organization to begin his professional career. He becomes the highest-drafted Binghamton position player in 35 years.

Rogacki was a key contributor during the baseball team's run to the America East championship and NCAA Athens Regional. He was named first-team all-conference and was also chosen to the America East All-Tournament Team. A catcher by trade, Rogacki played four positions in the Bearcats' lineup this season. He was slotted at catcher (25 games), DH (6), LF (4) and RF (18) and ranked among the America East top-5 in eight offensive categories.

"I'm so happy for Zach to get this opportunity to chase his dream of playing professional baseball ... and he deserves it," head coach Tim Sinicki said. "Zach has proven himself to be a tireless worker and outstanding competitor who will represent the Rockies with class and integrity no matter what is asked of him."

Rogacki led the conference in doubles (17) and sacrifice bunts (11), was second in triples (4), third in both hits (74) and average (.361) and fourth in slugging (.600). He homered eight times and drove in 43 runs. In the conference tournament, Rogacki finished with eight hits and six RBI and at the conclusion of the championship, he was presented with the America East's Elite 18 Award as the participating student-athlete with the highest GPA (3.75).

In his two seasons as a Bearcat after transferring from Division III Alvernia, Rogacki hit .346 and had a .427 on-base percentage. He compiled 100 hits (36 extra-base) and 56 RBI in 79 games. Rogacki closed his four-year collegiate career with 213 hits.

Rogacki becomes Binghamton's 17th MLB pick and second in as many years after Nick Roselli was taken by the New York Mets in the 11th round last summer. In 2021, the MLB Draft was reduced from 40 rounds to 20.
