VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore forward
Jahkaya Davis scored two goals to pace Binghamton women's soccer (2-0) to a 2-1 win over visiting St. Bonaventure (0-1-1) Thursday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The victory was the team's second straight by a 2-1 margin.
Davis opened the scoring 6:03 into the game after junior linemate
Paige Luke forced a deflected pass in the Bonnies' defensive third. Davis pounced on the loose ball and ripped a 15-yard shot to the top left netting for a 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats held a 10-0 shots advantage in the opening half and doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Davis struck again. She picked up the ball at midfield and dribbled some 50 yards deep into the box before slotting a 12-yard shot past the keeper. Â
St. Bonaventure got on the board in the 73rd minute with a long free kick strike, but the Bearcats held on through some nerve-racking final minutes.
"Overall I'm pretty pleased with the performance tonight," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "I thought our pressure on the ball in different areas of the field was pretty good and we scored a couple of good goals. The only thing that's leaving us wanting a little more is that the game was a little tighter toward the end than we wanted ... similar to Sunday. But in the end we got the 'W' and that's all the matters."
Binghamton finished with an 18-3 cushion in shots. Junior
Rebecca Kessler didn't face a shot in the first half before giving way to freshman
Bella Grace Dunn, who recorded two saves over the final 45 minutes.   Â
The Bearcats head to New Jersey on Sunday to face Monmouth.Â
