Men’s Soccer Blanks Hofstra 1-0 for Second Straight Win

Moe nets game-winning goal in 73rd minute

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Calvin Moe scored off a free kick in the 73rd minute, lifting Binghamton (2-2-0) to a 1-0 win over Hofstra (1-2-0) in a non-conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The victory was the second straight for the Bearcats and came against a Pride squad that won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title last year and was nationally ranked last week.

Moe's heroics finished off a free kick by the Bearcats from the right side of the box. The kick was taken by sophomore back Ryan Gillon who crossed the ball towards the left post when Moe was stationed. Moe then headed the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

"Gillon gave me a great delivery," Moe said afterwards. "We had gone over it in training a few times and were able to execute the play so it was great to get a goal."

At the other end of the field, graduate student goalkeeper Daniel Shannon made six saves to record his first shutout as a Bearcat.

"The competitive fight of our team has improved over the last two games," head coach Paul Marco said. "I am really proud of the guys for getting a clean sheet over a very good Hofstra team. Calvin Moe scored an unbelievable goal and the work he had to do to get to the ball was terrific."

Hofstra held a 16-6 total shot advantage as well as a 6-2 lead in shots on goal.

Binghamton travels to Colgate on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match.
