Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 at Unbeaten Colgate

Raiders net game winner in 83rd minute

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Conor Geraghty scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, lifting unbeaten Colgate (3-0-1) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (2-3-0) in a non-conference men's soccer match during a steady downpour on Thursday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field. The loss snapped the Bearcats' two-game win streak.

In a match that saw the Bearcats finish with a 13-5 lead in total shots, it was a series of set pieces that led to the final outcome. The Raiders took a free kick from the left of the box in the 83rd minute. In the ensuing scramble for the cross, the Bearcats were called for a foul inside the box.

Blake Pippen missed the ensuing penalty kick but the rebound came to Geraghty, who was stationed by the left post. He then slid the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

Binghamton mounted a furious attack after the Raider goal. The Bearcats fired four shots, one of which hit the cross bar, two of which were blocked and the other one was saved by Colgate goalkeeper Eric Widrick. Eventually, however, time ran out for Binghamton.

The Bearcats travel to Le Moyne on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
