VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton volleyball wrapped up the opening weekend of its 2025 season with a 3-0 loss to Hofstra Sunday at the Events Center.
The Pride won their season opener 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16. For the third game in a row,
Merima Smajlovic led the Bearcats in kills as the outside hitter recorded 12.
Alexandra Koleva also eight assists and eight digs, both team highs.
Jalia Dublin led Binghamton with three blocks, a career high for the freshman.
"We're really young and we have a brand-new team this year," said Binghamton Head Volleyball Coach
Allie Yaeger. "So, we're experimenting right now and we're just trying to see what sticks. We're throwing a lot of stuff on the wall and seeing what sticks and what doesn't stick. Checking boxes that work, checking boxes that don't work."
While Binghamton stayed even with Hofstra throughout the early portion of the first set, the Pride pulled away to eventually go up 1-0. After recording a hitting percentage of .441 as a team in the first set, Hofstra built on that momentum by putting up a hitting percentage of .533 in the second to win that frame. After the third set started in a 5-5 tie, Hofstra scored the next eight points to take the lead and never looked back, completing the sweep.
Binghamton's next game is on Wednesday at 6 p.m., when the Bearcats host Villanova at the Events Center.
