Bearcats earn President’s Special Recognition for posting team GPA of at least 3.5 or above in 2024-25

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton golf team is being recognized for its strong performance in the classroom, as the program received the 2024-25 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday. For posting an average team grade point average of at least 3.5 or above, the Bearcats also earned the President's Special Recognition.

"We're very proud of the team to win this award again," said Binghamton Head Golf Coach Bernie Herceg. "Thanks to our Division of Athletics for providing our athletes the resources to be successful in the classroom. These players are disciplined and dedicated to be successful on the playing field, and most importantly, in the classroom. Congratulations!"

This is the second time in program history that Binghamton has received this honor, and the first time the team has gotten the President's Special Recognition. The Bearcats previously won the team academic award at the end of the 2019-20 season.

For the 2024-25 school year, the Bearcats posted a team GPA of 3.54. In the spring semester, each of the eight golfers on the team recorded a GPA of at least 3.33 or better. Brandon Conner, whose cumulative GPA is at 3.66 after he posted an average of 3.9 in the spring, was named a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar by the GCAA for the second year in a row on July 29.

Binghamton opens the fall portion of its 2025-26 season at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. The tournament, which is hosted by Colgate, takes place from Sept. 6-7 at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y.
