Fourth-year Bearcat assistant coach will be inducted Saturday in Niskayuna, N.Y.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer assistant coach Taylor Van Fleet has been selected to the New York State High School Girls Soccer Hall of Fame. Van Fleet will join 13 others in the Class of 2025 that will be inducted in a ceremony Saturday afternoon at Niskayuna High School. The Hall of Fame was established in 2017 by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports (NYSSCOGS) to recognize players, coaches, referees, administrators and journalists who have made significant contributions to high school girls soccer.

Van Fleet, nee Bennett, starred at Dryden High School, about 50 miles north of the Binghamton campus. She amassed 186 goals and 36 assists in six high school seasons, including a school single-season record 48 goals. A four-year first team all-state selection in high school, she was the New York State Class B Player of the Year in 2015. Bennett also led her club team, Syracuse Development Academy, to four state titles and to compete in two national championships in 2013 and 2016. She also competed with the U.S. Women's National U-18 team.

In College, she was a four-year starting defender at Syracuse University, helping the Orange produce 21 shutouts before graduating in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science with a minor in coaching and physical education.

"Being selected for the hall of fame is an absolute honor," Van Fleet said. "I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support of my teammates, coaches, and family. This honor is truly shared with them all and I am forever grateful for everyone who had a part in my career. This award has allowed me to reminisce on my high school career and what made it so special was being able to play alongside my sister, Binghamton women's soccer alum Leighann Wegmann (Bennett) for three years and be coached by my mom, Janine Bennett for my entire career. Being able to share that time and competitive drive with them is what I believe led to all of our success throughout our Dryden soccer tenure."

Van Fleet is in her fourth year with head coach Neel Bhattacharjee and the Bearcats. She has been instrumental in the team's success. In the last three seasons, Binghamton has gone a combined 15-3-6 (75%) in conference play. The team captured the regular season title in 2022 and 2023 and has advanced to the tournament semifinals in four of the last five years, including a title-game appearance in 2022.
