Men’s Soccer Wins 2-1 at CCSU

Gillon and Randazzo net goals for Bearcats in the victory

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Junior forward Anthony Randazzo scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute, lifting Binghamton (4-4-0) to a 2-1 win at Central Connecticut State University (0-5-1) in a non-conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at the CCSU Soccer Field. The victory is the Bearcats' fourth in their past six matches as well as their second straight triumph on the road.

Randazzo, who now has a team-best three game-winning goals so far this season, scored from close range off a cross from sophomore midfielder DT Megliola. It marked his second game-winning goal of the season.

Earlier in the match, sophomore back Ryan Gillon opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a free kick goal from just outside the left corner of the box. It was his first score of the year.

The host Blue Devils, however, deadlocked the match on a goal by Anthony Catanzaro in the 63rd minute. Alvaro Moros was credited with the assist.

Following Randazzo's go-ahead goal, CCSU made a strong push for the equalizer, out-shooting the Bearcats 4-0 over the final 17 minutes of play. Graduate student goalkeeper Daniel Shannon, however, made two saves during that stretch - and five during the match - to preserve the victory.

Shots on goal favored the Blue Devils by a 14-9 margin.

Binghamton returns home for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday against Lafayette.
