EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Binghamton volleyball team was swept by Bowling Green in its final match at the Kathy DeBoer Invitational Saturday at Jenison Field House.
In a rematch of their first round match in the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), the Falcons defeated the Bearcats 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18.
Viktoria Dimitrova led Binghamton with a season-high 15 kills, while
Regan Kadel added 15 assists. Dimitrova and
Emily Cronkhite also posted eight digs each for the Bearcats.
Both teams traded the lead in the first set, as there were seven lead changes in the opening frame. Deadlocked at 20, Bowling Green scored five of the final eight points to take the set. Dimitrova finished the first set with four kills, while she and
Francesca Pierdonati each had two block assists.
The Falcons then jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the second set. Binghamton fought back with a 6-3 run to bring it to 24-18, but Bowling Green ultimately closed out the set to increase its lead to 2-0.
Binghamton kept up with Bowling Green in the third set. Trailing 19-15, the Bearcats brought it to a 20-18 deficit as they looked to complete the comeback and extend the match. However, Bowling Green closed out the set on a 5-0 run to win the set, and ultimately, the match.
Binghamton now turns its attention to the start of America East Conference play, as the Bearcats take on UAlbany in their conference opener on Friday at 6 p.m., in Albany, N.Y.
