Men’s Soccer Defeated 3-2 by UNH in Homecoming Game

Wildcats rally with three goals in final 14 minutes

VESTAL, N.Y. – Visiting New Hampshire (3-4-3, 1-0-0 AE) rallied for three goals in the final 14 minutes and beat Binghamton (4-6-0, 0-1-0 AE) 3-2 in an America East men's soccer match on Homecoming Weekend at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match was played before a season-high 1,009 fans.

The Bearcats appeared to have control of the match with a 2-0 lead heading into the final 14 minutes of play. In the end, however, they were unable to protect their advantage.

"We were winning the game 2-0 so we shouldn't have lost the game." head coach Paul Marco said. "They guys have to have a look in the mirror and see that there is a difference between competing hard and competing to win. That's where we don't have it right yet."

Junior forward Marcus Nahim opened the scoring in the 35th minute. He took a long pass from redshirt freshman back Ryan Gillon down the left sideline, got by the defense and fired the ball into the net from 10 yards out. It was his first goal of the season.

In the 56th minute, it was junior forward Anthony Randazzo netting his team-best fifth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder DT Megliola headed the ball to Randazzo who got by the defense and scored from close range. It was Randazzo's third straight match with a goal and Megliola's team-high fourth assist of the year.

The Wildcats, however, began their comeback when Gershom Matimano tipped in a cross by Terry Makedika in the 76th minute. Elias Kodri then tied the game on an unassisted goal from outside the box with 3:44 remaining.

New Hampshire then completed the comeback just 1:09 later when Xahvi Deroza netted an unassisted goal from beyond the box.

The Wildcats, who hit the crossbar twice in the first half, out shot the Bearcats 18-5 during the match. Possession time also favored the Wildcats by a 63-37 percentage.

Binghamton hosts Cornell on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
