Men’s Soccer Loses 5-0 to Cornell

Bearcats conclude three-match homestand

VESTAL, N.Y. – Giorgos Diakos finished with a goal and an assist while Daniel Samways tallied three assists, powering Cornell (6-1-0) to a 5-0 win over Binghamton (4-7-0) in a non-conference men's soccer match on Tuesday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match concluded the Bearcats' three-game home stand and came against a Big Red squad that is the first team receiving votes in the current United Soccer Coaches (USC) Top 25 Poll.

The Big Red scored twice in a span of 1:35 to go up 2-0 in the 20th minute. Samways assisted on both goals, including Daikos' goal in the 20th minute. Cornell added a third score at the buzzer of the first half with Blake Donahue netting his second goal of the season. 

In the second half, goals by Westin Carnevale (65th minute) and Sergio Zapata (78th minute) finished out the scoring.

Connor Miller added a pair of assists in the winning effort.

Cornell out shot the Bearcats 26-5.

Senior goalkeeper Jack Root made a career-high 10 saves for the Bearcats.

Binghamton travels to UMass Lowell on Saturday for a 6 p.m. America East Conference match.
