Volleyball to Welcome Colgate for Throwback Tuesday Match

Bearcats host in-state rivals at 6 p.m., on Tuesday in the Events Center

VESTAL, N.Y. – In the first of what will be three home matches within one week, the Binghamton volleyball team (5-9, 0-1 America East) takes on in-state rival Colgate (8-5, 4-0 Patriot) at 6 p.m., on Tuesday in the Events Center. Admission to all of Binghamton's home matches this season are free on behalf of Hinman, Howard & Katell, LLP.
 
Fans attending the match will travel back in time as the Bearcats celebrate Throwback Tuesday. Throughout the match, Throughout the match, music from the 1990s will be played along with 1990s-themed graphics on the scoreboard.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES VS. COLGATE
  • The all-time series between Binghamton and Colgate is tied at seven matches apiece.
  • Colgate has won the last six matches dating back to 2008, including the most recent one on Oct. 16, 2024, when the Raiders defeated the Bearcats 3-1 in Hamilton, N.Y.
 
CONFERENCE PLAY IS UNDERWAY
Binghamton began America East Conference play in its last match on Friday, Sept. 26, where the Bearcats fell in straight sets at UAlbany. Merima Smajlovic had a double double for Binghamton with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Viktoria Dimitrova had a team-high 12 kills.
 
DOUBLE THE TROUBLE
Smajlovic has already recorded eight double doubles so far this season, a career high for her. The senior outside hitter previously put up seven double doubles while playing for Seattle in 2024. Smajlovic is also on pace to set a new career high for kills in a season. She enters Tuesday's match with 194 kills, just 49 behind her current career high of 243 from 2024.
 
BACK IN THE MIX
Dimitrova continues to assert herself as one of the top performers on the Bearcats since returning to the lineup on Sept. 12. In seven matches this season, the sophomore right side hitter has posted at least 11 kills in five of those contests, including in each of her last three.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
Against UAlbany last Friday, Alexandra Koleva led the Bearcats with 26 assists. That was her most in a match nearly two weeks when she put up a season-high 37 in the Bearcats' 3-2 win over Bucknell on Sept. 13 at the Binghamton Invitational. The graduate setter ranks fifth in the America East in assists per set at 5.94.
 
WE HAVE SOMEONE THERE
Emily Cronkhite continues to play as one of Binghamton's top defenders. In the middle of her second season with the Bearcats, the senior ranks fourth in the America East in digs per set at 3.44, just in front of Smajlovic's average of 3.04. Cronkhite has registered 172 digs across 50 sets played this season. Against UAlbany, Cronkhite put up a team-high 14 digs.
