Bearcats also honored during halftime of men’s basketball game

VESTAL, N.Y. – Before the Binghamton softball team turned its complete focus to the 2026 season, there was one last piece of unfinished business to take care of from the previous year.

The Bearcats received their 2025 America East championship rings at a ceremony in the TAU Room of the Events Center on Monday afternoon. Later that day, the team was formally recognized during halftime of the Binghamton men's basketball game against UMBC.

Binghamton went 36-14 in 2025 and swept both the America East regular season and tournament titles. The Bearcats earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2015 and finished the season ranked No. 17 in the D1Softball mid major poll.

All 18 players from that team - including 2025 graduates Sarah Rende, Lindsey Walter and Brianna Santos - were on hand for the ring ceremony. It marked the first time all of them had been together since returning from the NCAA Tournament last May.

"It's so emotional being back," Rende said afterwards. "Seeing everyone again has been so awesome. "We had so much support last year and a lot of our families even came back for the ceremony. It's been such a great feeling today."

"Being a part of the ring ceremony was unforgettable," junior Delaney Glover said. "Getting the team back together to celebrate the one thing that we worked very hard for was amazing. It is something that we will never forget.

Head coach Jess Bump and her staff handed each one of the players the boxes containing their rings. The instructions were to wait until everyone had their boxes and open them at the same time.

"It was surreal when we opened the box and saw the rings," Rende said. "I got to see pictures of it over the summer but that was nothing compared to when we opened our boxes today."

"It was really great to see everyone's expressions when they opened their boxes and saw the rings, Bump said. It was a great last hurrah from last spring before we start practice this week for the (2026) season."

After the ceremony, the Bearcats made their way down to the court and were formally recognized during halftime of the men's basketball game. After a brief video of the championship season, Glover led the team on to the court, carrying the trophy and looked to pump up the crowd.

"I'm known on the team as the energy starter before games, so Coach Bump asked me to carry the trophy on to the court," Glover said. "It felt great to know everyone at the game knew what Binghamton softball achieved last year. We have such a great support system."

The support the Bearcats gave each other last season was a huge reason for their success. The team chemistry that was forged last season remains strong among all of the players from that championship squad.

"We all keep in touch with each other - players 1-18," Rende said. "I love each and every one of those girls and I'm so excited to watch them this season."

Expectations for this year's Binghamton softball squad remain high. The Bearcats were the unanimous pick to finish first in the conference in the America East Preseason Poll released earlier this week. Their 2026 campaign begins Feb. 6-8 at the South Carolina Tournament.

"Our girls are working really hard," Bump said. "We saw a few of them hit the other day and they definitely did the work they needed to over the break. We are excited to be back."
