ORONO, Maine – Maine (5-17, 3-4 AE) shot 63 percent in the second half to pull away from visiting Binghamton men's basketball (4-18, 0-7 AE) 79-63 Saturday afternoon at The Pitt.
The Bearcats put five players in double figures and shot 52 percent but committed 16 turnovers. Maine drilled 11-of-22 from 3-point range to aid its cause.
"We didn't play well against their zone and the turnovers really hurt us," head coach
Levell Sanders said. "Most of our turnovers led to easy layups. We just didn't execute the way we needed to today."
Down just one at half, the Bearcats surrendered a 19-6 run early in the second half and could never tighten the margin to single digits thereafter.
Graduate guard
Jackson Benigni led the Bearcats with 13 points. Junior guard
Jeremiah Quigley had 12 points, seven assists and seven rebounds and junior forward
Bryson Wilson added 12 points.
The host Black Bears hit 7-of-10 to start the game and quickly built a 17-6 lead six minutes in. Late in the half, Binghamton again trailed by double digits before Wilson tallied six points in a 1:45 span to spark a 14-5 run that brought Bing to within one, 37-36, at intermission. Binghamton shot 59% from the floor and Quigley had eight points and four assists to pace the first-half offense.
Binghamton next hosts Bryant Thursday night at the Events Center.
