VESTAL, N.Y. - First-place Binghamton women's soccer puts a 20-game conference unbeaten streak on the line when the Bearats (8-2-4, 4-0-2 America East) face three-time reigning champion Maine (6-5-3, 3-2-1 AE) Sunday afternoon in Orono. The perennial America East kingpins meet at noon at New Balance Complex and Binghamton can clinch its fourth regular season title in the last five years with a win.
The Bearcats sit atop the standings with 14 points with two games remaining. Behind them is a five-team, second-place logjam at 10 points, which includes Maine. Binghamton needs just one win in its remaining two games (at Maine, at Vermont) to gain the No. 1 seed and home field advantage for the tournament semifinals and finals.  Â
Binghamton kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0 home win over NJIT on Thursday. Junior
Jahkaya Davis netted her conference-high eighth goal in the 77th minute for the winning margin. Senior keeper
Rebecca Kessler set the school record with her 10th shutout of the season. Kessler continues to lead the nation in shutouts and lowered her goals against average to 0.36 (4th in nation).
Maine traveled to Smithfield, R.I. and dropped a 1-0 decision to Bryant - its second loss in the last four games. The Black Bears are led by junior forward and UConn transfer Isabella Meadows, who has seven goals. Maine is 4-2-1 at home this season. Â
Binghamton leads the all-time series 13-7-6 but the Bearcats have just one win in the last seven head-to-head games (1-3-3). Last season, the teams split two games - both in Vestal. In the regular season, the Bearcats prevailed 2-1 before the Black Bears gained revenge with a 1-0 overtime win in the America East semifinals. At home, Binghamton is 6-4-4 in the series.Â
