Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 tie at UNH

Randazzo nets Bearcats’ goal in 58th minute

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Anthony Randazzo scored in the 58th minute but Mikael Pulkkinen answered seven minutes later as Binghamton (1-5-4, 0-1-1 AE) and New Hampshire (5-3-3, 0-1-1 AE) battled to a 1-1 tie in an America East men's soccer match on Saturday evening at Wildcat Stadium.

Randazzo's goal was set up by senior forward Marcus Nahim, who fired a shot on goal from close range. His shot was stopped by New Hampshire goalkeeper Aaron Choi but the rebound came right back to him. Nahim then got the ball over to Randazzo who fired it into the center of the goal.

The goal by Randazzo was his team-best third of the season. Nahim, meanwhile, now has a goal and an assist in the past two games.

Pulkkinen, however, was able to finish off a cross from Reed Cash. The secondary assist was credited to Kohsuke Fukudome.

In the 72nd minute, junior back Khayr Ogunsanya made a crucial defensive save to keep the game deadlocked at 1-1. Miguel Soto Gonzalez shot the ball from inside the box and it appeared to be heading into an open net. At the last moment, however, Ogunsanya was able to make a sliding kick stop and the ball deflected off his foot and over the goal.

Senior goalkeeper Natan Jemaneh Admassu also made a pair of saves to preserve the tie.

"I thought we had a good game plan going into tonight and that our guys were outstanding in executing it," head coach Tommy Moon said. "We put ourselves in a position to win and it's good to come away with a point on the road. Tonight was a complete team effort both by our starting team and our guys off the bench. We had a spark tonight and showed a lot of grit."

The Wildcats held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and an 11-4 advantage in total shots.

Binghamton returns home to face St. Bonaventure on Tuesday at 6:07 p.m.
