Men’s Soccer Loses 2-0 to St. Bonaventure

Bonnies net both goals in the second half

VESTAL, N.Y. – Kyle Macfarlane and Brendan Sheehan each scored in the second half, lifting St. Bonaventure (4-4-3) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (1-6-4) in a non-conference men's soccer match on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game marked the Bearcats' final non-conference contest of the season.

Macfarlane's goal came on a penalty kick in the 56th minute after he was fouled inside the box. Sheehan, meanwhile, iced the match in the 84th minute with his fourth goal of the season. The assists were awarded to Callum Shillington and Manex Landa.

The Bearcats, who finished with a 14-10 shot advantage, had several golden opportunities to get on the scoreboard during the second half. In the 61st minute, a penalty kick by junior forward D.T. Megliola was saved by Maarten Schouten. Eight minutes later, a free kick taken by redshirt junior midfielder Itai Levisman hit the upper-left post.

"I thought we had a decent first half and were on top of the game," head coach Tommy Moon said. "We had good possessions and had some good chances. We started the second half okay but we took our foot of the gas a little bit and could have done a better job finishing up the second half."

Twenty-one Binghamton players got on the field during the match against St. Bonaventure. This included redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Connor Cresswell - who played the first half - and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Trevor Carr - who played the final 45 minutes. The two of them combined to make four saves.

Binghamton returns to America East play when it hosts UMass Lowell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
