Men's basketball grinds past Saint Peter's 58-55

Quigley tallies career-high 28 points and Bearcats score game's final six to post road win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Senior guard Jeremiah Quigley poured in a career-high 28 points to lift visiting Binghamton men's basketball (1-1) to a 58-55 win at Saint Peter's (0-2) Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center. The game was Bing's first of back-to-back games as part of the America East – Metro Basketball Challenge.

Quigley hit 18-of-20 free throws and scored the game's final six points – all from the line – in the closing 1:03. After Quigley's pair of foul shots put the Bearcats up 58-55 with 11 seconds left, Binghamton withstood two Saint Peter's potential game-tying shots in the closing three seconds.

No more than six points separated the teams throughout and the grind-it-out game featured 15 ties and eight lead changes.

"JQ stepped up tonight," head coach Levell Sanders said. "He's super competitive and played a really good game. And we needed all of it. We want to be a complete team and we need everyone to make plays. Everyone that came in gave us key minutes. That's the sign of a good team … when you stay ready mentally and are able to contribute. Our guys are growing into roles. Everyone played hard tonight."

The Bearcats trailed 55-52 with 1:24 left before rallying. After two Quigley free throws, junior guard Jayden Lemond stole the ball with 48 seconds left and that led to another pair of Quigley freebies with 46 seconds left. The Peacocks missed two straight shots on the other end before Quigley corralled the defensive rebound with 11 seconds remaining, setting up the final sequence.

Senior center Demetrius Lilley notched his second straight double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Senior forward Dylan Godfrey added 10 points.

The teams were sluggish out of the gate, combining to miss their first 18 3-point attempts. Quigley tallied 12 points in the first half and Lilley added eight points and eight boards. Binghamton led by six late in the half but a 7-0 Peacocks run brought the hosts back. A Lilley bucket with 23 seconds left in the half made it a 27-27 deadlock at intermission.

Binghamton hosts Rider Sunday afternoon in its final game of the America East – Metro Basketball Challenge. The 4 p.m. game will be the Bearcats' first-ever at the downtown Visions Veterans Memorial Arena as a cornerstone of the "One City … One Binghamton" theme for 2026-27.  Tickets are available here.
