Bearcats to have opportunity to face wrestlers from several nationally-ranked programs

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team continues the early portion of its 2026-27 season Sunday by competing in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa. The tournament begins at 9 a.m.

This is the third year in a row the Bearcats are competing in this event. The tournament features wrestlers from multiple nationally-ranked programs, such as No. 5 Virginia Tech, No. 11 Cornell, No. 12 Lehigh, No. 15 NC State, No. 18 Illinois, No. 19 Rutgers and No. 25 Indiana.

The Bearcats opened their season last Sunday by wrestling in the Princeton Open. Carson Wagner took home the 125 lb., title after the senior won all four of his matches. He was one of five placewinners for Binghamton at the event. Also reaching the podium were Carson DesRosier (fourth at 141 lbs.), Dillon Arrick (fourth at 133 lbs.), Thomas Snipes (fifth at 165 lbs.) and Charlie Tibbitts (fifth at 285 lbs.). DesRosier, who along with Snipes made his Binghamton debut after both wrestlers transferred to the program from The Citadel, made noise by defeating No. 19 Braden Basile of Army-West Point in the quarterfinals in a 14-3 major decision. Snipes also nearly picked up a ranked win himself, taking No. 17 Ty Whalen of Princeton into overtime before falling in the second tiebreaker 5-2.

As a result of winning the Princeton Open, Wagner reentered the InterMat rankings at No. 32. He previously made the poll's first preseason rankings at No. 33. Both DesRosier and Snipes entered the FloWrestling poll for the first time as Bearcats at No. 22 in their respective weight classes. DesRosier also gained a spot in the InterMat poll, where he is now ranked No. 31. Snipes, meanwhile, remains at No. 30 in that ranking. Carter Baer, who did not compete in the Princeton Open, moved up one spot to No. 19 in the FloWrestling rankings, while staying at No. 21 in the InterMat poll.
