SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Binghamton men's basketball (6-22, 2-11 America East) poured in 45 second-half points and pulled away from host Bryant (8-19, 4-9 AE) 79-67 Thursday night at Chace Athletic Center.
The Bearcats shot 64 percent in the second half and made 6-of-6 free throws in the final minute to ice the game. With the win, Binghamton completed a season sweep of the Bulldogs and closed to within two games of Bryant for the eighth and final playoff spot. Each team has three regular season games remaining.
"We wanted to come out and not give them anything easy," head coach
Levell Sanders said. "We felt they would be under pressure to win at home. It was all heart from us … everyone did something and contributed. It was a big win for us – one we really needed. I'm happy we were able to come out and play as a team. We have to keep battling and keep our season alive. We will be ready to go Saturday at Lowell."
Junior point guard
Jeremiah Quigley totaled team-highs of 19 points and five assists. He scored 15 points in the decisive second half, when the Bearcats hit 16-of-25 shots.
Playing in front of a large contingent of family and friends, graduate guard
Jackson Benigni was perfect from the field, hitting 4-of-4 shots, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Benigni finished with 18 points. Junior forward
Zyier Beverly tallied 14 points and three steals and junior guard
Bryson Wilson added 13 points and eight boards.
Up 34-28 at half, Binghamton hit 5-of-9 to start the second half and quickly extended its lead to double digits. Bryant misfired on 7-of-9 during that early stretch and the Bulldogs pulled no closer than nine points over the final 10 minutes.
All seven available scholarship players saw action and scored.
The Bearcats continue travel to Lowell for Saturday afternoon's 1 p.m. tilt at UMass Lowell.
NOTE
With Quigley's five assists, he now has 170 for the season, four away from establishing the new school record. The current mark is 173, set by Symir Torrence in 2023-24.
