Women's lacrosse defeats Colgate 16-13

Bearcats had nine players record a point in Saturday's victory

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Binghamton women's lacrosse (2-2) picked up its second victory of the week after defeating Colgate (2-1), 16-13 at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

"Today was a good team win, and a testament to the grit this team plays with," head coach Stephanie Allen stated. "I was happy to see a lot of different people show up today and make a big impact on the game."

Nine different Bearcats registered a point in Saturday's contest, with seven players recording a goal. Mia Forte logged a career day after scoring a career best four goals on four shots. Emma Blloshmi recorded her 20th career hat trick, while Sienna Fox tallied her first goal of the season and Emily Backlin earned the win in net.

Colgate started with an early two-goal lead in just two minutes of gameplay. The Bearcats quickly responded with two goals themselves to bring the game back to level in just five minutes of play in the first quarter.

Jess Robinson set up Forte and Fox for Binghamton's next two goals, seeing the Bearcats take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

After a Carla Curth goal at the 12:40 mark in the second quarter, the Raiders rattled off the next three goals to bring the score back to level, 5-5.

From there, it became all Binghamton for the remainder of the first half as the Bearcats went into an offensive frenzy by scoring six-straight goals, giving them their largest lead of the game at 11-5.

Beginning the second half, Colgate closed the gap on Binghamton's lead, scoring the first three goals of the third quarter to make it an 11-8 game with 9:21 left to play.

The remainder of the game continued to be an offensive onslaught as both sides traded goals back and forth, resulting in a total of 10 goals. Jamie Elliott recorded her first career point after setting up Blloshmi on Binghamton's 13th goal. The Bearcats would hang on to their lead and snag the victory in Hamilton with a final score of 16-13.

The Bearcats return home on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game against Le Moyne.
