This month, Binghamton student-athletes attended an Energy Availability & Nutrition in Sport presentation. It was led by
Megan Gossfeld-Schmid, Senior Counselor, Athletics Specialist and Julie Lee, Registered Dietitian with Binghamton University Dining Services. Student-athletes learned how energy availability in sport relates to nutrition, body image, mental health, and training. The session took place in the Events Center TAU Clubroom.
"Student-athletes in attendance learned how eating influences mental wellness in addition to physical health." Said
Megan Gossfeld-Schmidt. "We reflected upon challenges unique to athletes' relationships with food, as well as strategies for improving body image."
"Knowing how food influences energy, recovery, and overall well-being is critical for athletes striving to perform at their best. In a landscape crowded with social media myths and unrealistic aesthetic expectations, accurate nutrition education is more important than ever." said Julie Lee.
