Thirty-sixth annual event to be held at Links of Hiawatha

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton Bearcats Athletic Association (BBAA) will host its 36th Annual Matthews Auto Bearcats Golf Classic on Thursday, May 28 at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. The annual event raises money for the Binghamton University Athletics General Scholarship Fund.

During the AM session, there will be a Captain and Crew format. The PM session will be a Texas Scramble-2 best ball format.

Matthews Auto Group continues as the title sponsor for the Bearcats Golf Classic. The dealership is also the title sponsor of the Binghamton golf team's annual fall collegiate invitational - also at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. Since Matthews Auto became the title sponsor of the BBAA Bearcats Golf Classic, the tournament has generated more than $500,000 in fund-raising revenue.

"Thanks to the continued support of Matthews Auto, The Links at Hiawatha Landing, and other local businesses, Binghamton University Athletics has been able to maintain the tradition of the Bearcats Golf Classic in order to support our student-athletes," Assistant to the Director of Athletics Kara Kellett-Williams said. "Entering its 36th year, The Matthews Auto Bearcats Golf Classic has consistently provided a wide variety of amenities to golfers, making it one of our area's premiere golf tournaments.  The tournament provides a way to engage our supporters, increase visibility of the Division of Athletics at Binghamton University, as well as raise money for our student-athletes."

Founded in 1991, the BBAA is the philanthropic support group made up of alumni, parents, friends, community members, teams, coaches and students who have a deep interest in Binghamton University and its Athletics program. Binghamton University has long been proud of its student-athletes and their many accomplishments – whether they were competing as Colonials or as Bearcats.

The BBAA allows the Division of Athletics to provide scholarships to student-athletes, state-of-the-art training equipment, facility and equipment enhancements and funding for student-athlete excellence that supports our student-athletes' academic pursuits.
