VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team (6-3, 3-1 EIWA) returns to the road to face EIWA foe Sacred Heart (3-6, 0-2 EIWA) at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday at the William H. Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center.
This will be the Bearcats' first dual in 14 days after the team split its doubleheader against Brown and Harvard on Jan. 24 at the Events Center. Binghamton defeated Brown 21-10 before falling to Harvard 30-13 in its home finale.
No. 18/19
Carter Baer won both of his matches that night at 174 lbs., first defeating Brown's Drew Clearie 9-3 before taking down Harvard's Ben Smith in an 18-2 technical fall, his fourth of the season. With those two victories, Baer extended his winning streak to 15 matches, as he owns an overall record of 15-2 and a perfect dual mark of 9-0.
On Jan. 29, Baer made the cut for the first NCAA coaches' rankings of the season when he was ranked No. 19. The ranking is one of multiple criteria that is used by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The committee also looks at head-to-head competition, quality wins, Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
Baer's ranking is similar to where he placed in the other national polls. The Gouverneur, N.Y., native is ranked No. 18 in both the FloWrestling and The College Wrestling Report rankings, No. 19 in the InterMat poll and No. 20 in the WrestleStat rankings.
