BALTIMORE, Md. – Binghamton women's lacrosse (3-6, 0-1 AE) fell 12-7 to UMBC (6-2, 1-0 AE) Saturday afternoon in Baltimore in the America East opener for both teams.
Binghamton jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first two goals.
Emma Blloshmi opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 11:25 mark of the first quarter before
Carla Curth added another goal less than a minute later to give the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage.
UMBC responded later in the opening period with two goals, one coming from a man-up opportunity to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
The Retrievers scored a quick goal in the second quarter to obtain their first lead of the game.
Christina Lauro briefly tied the score for Binghamton, but the Retrievers added two more goals to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
The decisive stretch came in the third quarter. After Blloshmi evened the score at 5–5 early in the period, UMBC erupted for five consecutive goals to build onto their lead, taking a 10-5 advantage.
Binghamton attempted a late push in the fourth quarter.
Jess Robinson scored on a free-position opportunity before assisting on Curth's second goal of the game to trim the deficit to 10-7 with just over two minutes remaining. However, UMBC closed the door with two goals in the final minutes to seal the 12-7 victory.
The Bearcats return to action next Saturday for their first conference game at home when they take on New Hampshire at noon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
