Baseball drops 8-1 decision at Richmond

Kraus belts second home run of spring; teams will play rubber game Sunday afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. - Host Richmond (9-6) limited Binghamton baseball (3-8) to a pair of hits and bunched its scoring into three innings for an 8-1 win Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.

The Spiders scored three runs in the first, three more in the fourth and two final runs in the seventh inning. The Bearcats, meanwhile, managed just two hits - one being a solo home run from sophomore first baseman Steven Kraus.

Down 6-0, Kraus belted his second home run of the spring with a 1-out solo shot. Kraus sent a 2-0 offering over the wall in right field. Sophomore third baseman Tim Hennig recorded Binghamton's other hit with an eighth-inning single.

On the mound, relievers Mason Holloway (2.1 IP) and Ryan Bates (2.0 IP) didn't allow an earned run over the final 4.1 innings. Each scattered two hits and struck out one.

The teams will play the rubber game of the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
