Softball Loses 11-1 to Colgate

Second game of DH canceled due to impending weather

VESTAL, N.Y. –  Lily Haluska drove in five runs and Kayla Martin belted a grand slam, powering Colgate (17-16) to an 11-1, five-inning win over Binghamton (7-17) in a non-conference softball game on Wednesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader but the second game was called off due to weather conditions.

Haluksa opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning and padded the lead to 5-0 with a two-run single one inning later. She then scored two batters later on Martin's grand slam, which put the Raiders up 9-0.

For the Bearcats, sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey and graduate student outfielder Darien McDonough each finished the game 2-for-3. Carey scored on McDonough's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, pulling Binghamton to within 9-1.

Colgate, however, was able to finish off the game in five innings as Analisa Raffaelli hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. The Bearcats then left a runner on second base when the game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Alexa Acker scattered one run on six hits, struck out four batters and did not allow a walk. Her record improves to 6-8. Senior pitcher Olivia Kennedy, meanwhile, was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 1-5.

The Raiders came into the game having hit 50 home runs so far this season. Since losing 8-1 to Binghamton back on March 8, they have gone 10-3 with 24 home runs during that stretch.

McDonough now has a team-high, seven game hitting streak and is batting .390 for the season. Carey, meanwhile, is batting a team-best .506 and has hit safely in her last four games.

Senior first baseman Emma Lawson and freshman outfielder Megan Wolf each went 1-for-2 against the Raiders. Lawson now has a season-high, four game hitting streak.

Binghamton hosts UAlbany in an America East weekend series. The two squads are slated to play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
