Softball Sweeps St. Bonaventure 12-7 and 11-3

Bearcats pound out 29, notch 100th win at BSC

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior catcher Elisa Allen went a perfect 6-for-6, homered and drove in seven runs, powering Binghamton (12-20) to a 12-7, 11-3 sweep over St. Bonaventure (6-38) in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The victories mark the third time this season that the Bearcats have scored 10+ runs in both games of a home doubleheader.

The doubleheader sweep also included a milestone for the Bearcats. Binghamton's win in game one over the Bonnies marked its 100th win at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Since moving into their current home park in 2013, the Bearcats now have a home record of 101-51 (.664).

In addition to her six hits, Allen also drew a walk and knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. She now leads the America East with 11 home runs and 32 RBI. In addition, Allen's 41 career home runs is just three away from the Binghamton program record (44, by Jessica Phillips from 2010-13) and six away from the conference record (46, by two players).

Also posting big days at the plate on Tuesday were freshman outfielder Reese Izenstark and senior first baseman Emma Lawson. Izenstark was 4-for-5 (.800) with a home run and four RBI. Lawson, meanwhile, was 5-for-7 (.714) with a double, triple and a home run.

Sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey finished the day 4-for-7 (.571) and scored a team-best five runs. In the process, she raised her batting average to a team-high and conference-best .495.

Senior shortstop Rebecca Minnichbach and junior outfielder Maddy Dodig, meanwhile, each went 3-for-6 (.500). Minnichbach also drove in four runs while Dodig's final hit was the 100th of her career - a milestone only 26 other Binghamton players have reached during their careers.

As a team, the Bearcats hit .500 against St. Bonaventure. They racked up 29 hits - 10 of which went for extra bases.

"It was good to get out here and get two wins before we get back into conference play," head coach Jess Bump said. "We've talked about getting momentum offensively so today was a good day for us.

In the opener, the Bearcats had to rally from a 5-0 hole after just a half an inning. The Bonnies got RBI singles from Kymora Wang and Nolah Moyer in the top of the first inning as well as a three-run home run by Grace Miller.

Down 6-4 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Binghamton scored four times to take the lead for good. Lawson tied the game with a two-run home run over the center field fence and Allen singled home the go-ahead run. Graduate student outfielder Darien McDonough then capped the frame with an RBI double.

One inning later, the Bearcats got four insurance runs to go up 12-6. Izenstark belted a two-run home run during that stretch while Allen and Minnichbach each singled home a run.

Sophomore pitcher Savanna McHale pitched six strong innings in relief to improve to 5-2. Jayden Szkatulski fell to 0-3 with the defeat.

Allen set her career high with four hits in the first game - all of which were singles. Lawson went 3-for-4 while Dodig scored game-high three times.

Unlike the opener, the Bearcats struck early and often in game two. Allen and Izenstark both knocked in runs to put Binghamton up 2-0 after one inning. In the second inning, five different players drove in a run as the Bearcats padded their lead to 7-0. Minnichbach then made it 9-0 with a two-run single in the bottom of the third inning.

St. Bonaventure responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The big blow of the frame was a two-run home run by Miller.

Allen then took matters into her own hands in the bottom of the fifth inning. She clubbed a two run home run well over the left-field scoreboard to give the Bearcats the walk-off victory.

Junior pitcher Delaney Glover raised her record to 1-6 while Kylie Bickert lost her first decision of the season.

Carey went 3-for-4 in the nightcap and scored three times.

McDonough finished the day 2-for-6 (.333) and drove in three runs.

Binghamton returns to conference play this weekend at Maine.
