VESTAL, N.Y. – Three members of the Binghamton wrestling team are heading to Las Vegas this weekend to compete in the U.S. Open Championships at The Expo at World Market Center Las Vegas.
Dillon Arrick (61 kg.),
Jacob Hanlon (65 kg.) and
Quinn Funk (92 kg.) are each wrestling in the U20 Freestyle competition, which takes place from Saturday through Sunday. Hanlon will also wrestle in the U20 Greco-Roman competition, which takes place on Thursday. Each wrestler is competing on behalf of the Bearcat Wrestling Club.
The tournament will include many of the country's best wrestlers. Every winner qualifies for Final X, which takes place on June 19 in Newark, N.J. There, wrestlers will compete for the chance to represent Team USA at the 2026 World Championships, which is being held from Oct. 24 – Nov. 1 in Manama, Bahrain.
Arrick enjoyed a breakout season in 2025-26 for the Bearcats. The redshirt freshman set a career high in overall wins (22), dual victories (5), pins (5) and major decisions (5). The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., native also won his group at both the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Nov. 9 and Big Red Invitational on Nov. 23. His second season in the Southern Tier culminated with him finishing fifth at the EIWA Championships at 133 lbs.
Funk furthered his development at Binghamton last season, winning 12 matches while collecting four pins, two technical falls and one major decision. He also went undefeated at the Big Red Invitational and finished sixth at the Black Knight Open on Nov. 16 at 197 lbs.
Hanlon's first season at Binghamton consisted of him winning nine matches, posting five pins, two technical falls and one major decision along the way. Hanlon place fifth at 133 lbs., at the Black Knight Open. Additionally, while competing unattached, he finished sixth at the Wilkes Open on Dec. 19.
Binghamton has enjoyed success recently at the U.S. Open Championships. In 2024,
Carter Baer finished eighth in the U20 Freestyle competition at 79 kg., to qualify for the World Team Trials.
The U20 Greco-Roman competition begins Thursday with the first session at 1 p.m., consisting of the preliminaries, quarterfinals, semifinals and consolation matches. The final session that evening at 7 p.m. with the additional consolation matches, the consolation semifinals, medal matches and championship finals.
The U20 Freestyle competition starts Saturday at 1 p.m. with the preliminaries and consolation. The next session, featuring the championship and consolation rounds, begins that evening at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, the next session starts at 1 p.m. That includes the quarterfinals, semifinals, consolation and consolation semifinals. The final session begins at 5 p.m., that day, featuring the championship finals and medal matches.
