VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior
Jackson Mitchell pitched five scoreless innings and Binghamton baseball (22-15) built a 7-1 lead before hanging on for a 10-8 win over Longwood in Game 2 of a twinbill Friday night at Bearcats Baseball Complex. The visiting Lancers (25-18) took the opener 7-3.
With the non-conference doubleheader split, Binghamton has now won 15 of its last 19 games.
In Game 2, Mitchell (W, 3-0) scattered five hits (all singles) and struck out five to lower his season ERA to 2.97. He departed with a 5-0 lead. Longwood kept things interesting with eight runs over the last four innings and the Lancers had the tying runs on base in the ninth before junior reliever
Hayden Tarsia (S, 4) recorded a strikeout to end it.

Zach Anderson belted his fifth home run of the season - a solo shot in the seventh. Sophomore DH
Tommy Popoff went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Binghamton scored single runs in the first and second innings, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
In Game 1, the Bearcats put runners on in all nine innings but Longwood hit three home runs and took advantage of seven walks issued by Binghamton pitchers. The teams condensed their scoring into three innings with the Bearcats plating all three of their runs in the first inning before being shut down over the final eight frames. The Lancers scored five runs in the fourth and two insurance runs in the ninth.
Popoff went 2-for-3 with a 2-run home run in the first - his third of the spring. Sophomore right fielder
Braylen Gonzalez opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first - his fourth of the season.
Junior reliever
Jake Dally struck out a career-high six batters and allowed just one hit in 3.1 scoreless frames. Dally dropped his season ERA to 2.92.
After waiting out the pending rain for a day, the teams will close out the series at noon on Sunday.
