Softball Sweeps UMass Lowell 2-1 and 9-1 on Senior Day

Bearcats wrap up regular season with three straight AE wins

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior pitcher Delaney Glover and senior pitcher Olivia Kennedy each recorded complete-game victories and the Binghamton offense clubbed four home runs, highlighting a 2-1, 9-1 Senior Day sweep over UMass Lowell on Saturday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victories, the Bearcats (16-25, 15-5 AE) sweep the three-game weekend series against the River Hawks (25-24, 11-10 AE) and head into the America East Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Binghamton's first game in the double-elimination tournament takes place Wednesday against No. 5 - and host - Maine.

Glover scattered one run on six hits and struck out six batters to lock down the victory in the opener. Kennedy, meanwhile, went all six innings of the nightcap, surrendered only an unearned run on five hits and struck out three batters. Having won Friday's 6-2 series opener against the River Hawks. Kennedy finished the weekend with a 2-0 record and a 1.08 ERA.

"We haven't played (in 10 days) before this weekend, so our pitchers watched a lot of film and worked on a lot of things heading into this series," head coach Jess Bump said. "I was really proud of Olivia and Delaney this weekend."

All of the Bearcats' home runs on Saturday took place in the second game. They got two-run shots by senior first baseman Emma Lawson, sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey as well as junior catcher Elisa Allen. In addition, freshman designated player Lauren Payne's three-run home run represented the first of her career.

Allen's home run, which was the walk off hit of the second game, was the 46th of her career. In the process, she tied the America East Conference all-time record which was set by Kristen Brust of Stony Brook (2002-05) and tied by Hayley Durham - also from Stony Brook (2003-06). Allen has already broken the Bearcats' all-time record, having hit her 45th career home run against Cornell back on April 21.

Lawson went 4-for-5 (.800) at the plate on Saturday to conclude a monstrous three-game series against UMass Lowell. During the weekend, she went 7-for-8 (.875) at the plate with three home runs and seven RBI. She had the game-winning RBI in all three games and is now hitting .340 for the season.

Heading into the America East Tournament, Lawson has a team-best, 10-game hitting streak. It marks the second time in her career she has posted a 10+-game hitting streak, having hit in 11 consecutive games from April 11-29, 2025.

Kennedy and Lawson were two of Binghamton's seniors who were honored before today's doubleheader. They were joined by fellow seniors Brianna Roberts and Rebecca Minnichbach. Like Kennedy and Lawson, Minnichbach also made the most of her Senior Day with a .600 (3-for-5) batting average on Saturday. She ended the weekend hitting .500 (3-for-6).

Carey, meanwhile, went 3-for-8 (.375) on Saturday and finished the weekend 4-for-11 (.364) with three RBI. She continues to lead the America East with a .478 batting average, is second with 10 home runs and third with 35 RBI.

With 65 hits so far this season, Carey has already posted the second-highest total in Binghamton program history. Jessica Rutherford holds the single-season record with 71 hits in 2016.

In the first game on Saturday, Glover got all of the run support she'd need in the bottom of the third inning. Graduate student outfielder Darien McDonough doubled home the first run and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Lawson.

The River Hawks closed the gap to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning when Julia Rowley scored on a sacrifice fly. UMass Lowell then loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning but Glover and the Bearcat defense were able to hang on for the win.

Allen and Lawson combined for four of the Bearcats' five hits in the opener.

Glover is now 2-6 while Gianna LaCedra fell to 4-11 with the defeat.

In the second game, Kennedy gave up her unearned run in top of the second inning. Lawson, however, put the Bearcats up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with her two-run blast over the center field fence.

One inning later, the Bearcats blew the game open with five more runs. Carey made it 4-1 with her two-run homer and Payne followed with her three-run shot.

Allen then clinched the walk off win with her two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kennedy is now 5-6 while Ella Van Alstyne was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 4-2.

Allen ended the weekend 3-for-9 (.333). She continues to lead the America East with 16 home runs and 44 RBI.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Bearcats have clinched a top-two seed in the America East Tournament. Binghamton was also the second seed in 2023 and 2024 as well as the top seed last season.
