Pair named Spring Chancellor's Award winners for their sports

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton spring sport athletes Jackson Mitchell and Emma Blloshmi have been named SUNY Chancellor Scholar-Athletes in their sports for the 2026 spring season.

The pair join fall winners Sydney Leitner and Nick Thomas and winter winners Matthew Oluwole and Mikey Squires to give the Bearcats six sport recipients during the 2025-26 year.

Mitchell, a junior baseball pitcher, led the Bearcats to a second consecutive America East tournament title and NCAA Regional berth. A Business Administration and Philosophy, Politics and Law major with a 3.50 GPA, Mitchell was a second team all-conference selection who compiled four saves and three wins as the team's closer. Opponents hit just .206 off him this spring. Mitchell also was a member of the America East Baseball All-Academic Team, Binghamton AD and America East Honor Rolls.

Blloshmi was a record-breaking attacker for Binghamton's women's lacrosse team. A senior English major with a 3.36 GPA, Blloshmi was the America East Attacker of the Year and first team all-conference selection. She compiled 51 goals and ranked ninth in the nation in free position goals and 15th in nation in goals per game (3.40). One of the school's Athlete of the Year finalists, she was named the John Bilos Award winner for career achievement and leadership. Blloshmi was a member of the America East Lacrosse All-Academic Team and Binghamton AD and America East Honor Rolls.

The SUNY Scholar Athlete Award honors student-athletes for combining academic achievement with success in the arena of athletic competition. Students are nominated by their institutions based on their cumulative grade point average, current and career statistics, and athletic and academic honors. In the spring, fall and winter, student-athletes from each division are selected as winners, and in July two student athletes are selected as the overall men's and women's winners from each division.

More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards. The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognize outstanding academic and athletic success in 29 different sports and are presented three times a year to coincide with the specific sports contested in the fall, winter and spring seasons. The Scholar Athletes of the Year in each sport will then be nominated for an overall Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's sports and women's sports in each category that will be announced in mid-July.

Since the 2003-04 academic year, 101 Binghamton student-athletes across all sports have been named SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athletes.
