Six student-athletes are recognized for success in the classroom

VESTAL, N.Y. – Six Binghamton student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Academic All-District Team Tuesday.

Carter Baer, Mikey Squires, and Fin Nadeau of wrestling, Brandon Conner and Harrison Blech of golf, and Mason Shenk of men's lacrosse were each chosen for the team in the men's at-large category. Additionally, both Baer and Squires have been named finalists for CSC Academic All-America honors.

In order to be eligible for selection, an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. For Squires, who transferred to Binghamton in 2025 after receiving his bachelor's degree from Princeton, he needed to have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student.

Also, wrestlers must be in the lineup for at least 75 percent of team scoring events or compete in their weight class at a conference championship meet. Men's lacrosse players must compete in 90 percent of their school's games or start in at least 66 percent of their team's games. Golfers must be in the lineup for 75 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.

Both Baer and Squires qualified for the NCAA Men's Wrestling Championships for the first time in their careers back in March after each wrestler finished in second place at the EIWA Championships. In his lone season at Binghamton, Squires went 20-5 at 197 lbs., posting five major decisions, two pins and one technical fall. For his work in the classroom, the Norwich, N.Y., native received the SUNY Scholar-Athlete Award and was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for the second time in his career back in April. He is working towards obtaining his Master of Business Administration.

Baer, meanwhile, went 20-6 at 174 lbs., in 2025-26, adding four technical falls and two major decisions throughout the year. He was named a Scholar All-American by the NWCA for the third year in a row back in April, becoming the fourth wrestler ever at Binghamton to be named a Scholar All-American at least three times, joining Joe Doyle (2020-22), Jacob Nolan (2021-24) and Cory Day (2023-25). In May, the Gouverneur, N.Y., native received his bachelor's degree in human development.

Nadeau was named a Scholar All-American for the second year in a row after he won a career-high 21 matches last season, putting up one pin and technical fall. The Bigfork, Mont., native completed his year by finishing a career-best fourth at the EIWA Championships at 157 lbs. Off the mat, Nadeau obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration back in May.

On the men's lacrosse field, Shenk appeared in 12 games in 2026, setting career highs in both ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (5). In May, he became the first Binghamton men's lacrosse player to receive the Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award. The award honors individuals who exemplify leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship and meaningful community involvement. Shenk, who hails from Atlantic Highlands, N.J., has previously been inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2025 and qualified for both the America East Conference's Commissioner's and Spring honor rolls. He ultimately graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance.

This is the second time that Conner has been named to the All-District Team, after he previously qualified back in 2024. In his final season with the Bearcats, Conner had two top 10 and three top 20 finishes. Cincinnati, Ohio native tied two program records at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational, matching the lowest single round score (66/6-under par in the final round) and 36-hole score (71-66 = 137/7-under par). Conner went on to finish in second place at that tournament, as well as the Blue Hen Intercollegiate. Conner went on to be named a Prime Performer by the NEC three times throughout the 2025-26 season (Oct. 2, Oct. 30 and March 25). Conner was also inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2025 and made the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll that year. In May, Conner received his Master of Business Administration.

Blech completed his Binghamton by tying his career-low scoring average of 76.2. The Montebello, N.Y., native put up one top 10 and one top 20 finish throughout the season. At the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational, Blech shot a career-low score for a 54-hole tournament at 71-72-75 = 218/2-over par to finish tied for third. In his final collegiate tournament at the NEC Men's Golf Championship, Blech made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole of the opening round, becoming only the third golfer in program history to achieve that during Binghamton's Division I era. Off the course, Blech has previously qualified for the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll. Like Conner, Blech also obtained his Master of Business Administration in May.

Voting for Academic All-America begins Tuesday and ends on June 23. The men's Academic All-America teams will be announced by the CSC on July 8.
