TOLEDO, Ohio – The Binghamton volleyball team (0-3) was defeated in straight sets by Toledo (2-0) 25-12, 25-22 and 25-15 Saturday in the Bearcats' final match at the Rocket Invitational at Savage Arena.
Magi Milicevic put up a team-high seven kills for Binghamton, while
Viktoria Dimitrova added six.
Celeste Ocampo added 13 digs to finish the weekend with 45.
Toledo gradually built a lead throughout the first set. With the Bearcats down 11-7, the Rockets scored seven of the next eight points to extend their lead to 18-8. Toledo ended the frame on a 7-4 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Binghamton came out on the attack in the second set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead thanks in part to back-to-back service aces by
Maia Marin to begin the frame. The Bearcats continued to stay one step ahead of the Rockets throughout the set, eventually taking a 15-12 lead into the media timeout. Coming out of the break, the Rockets scored the next six points to move ahead 18-15. The Rockets eventually put themselves on the verge of set point at 24-18. The Bearcats fought back with four unanswered points to bring it to 24-22, but the Rockets ultimately closed out the set to extend their lead in the match to 2-0.
Binghamton trailed Toledo 15-11 at the media timeout in the third set, before the Rockets ultimately pulled away to win the final frame and the match itself.
The Bearcats next compete in the Sacred Heart Invitational from Sept. 4-5. Binghamton first faces Central Connecticut State Friday at 3 p.m.
