VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Cornell (3-3-2) snapped a scoreless tie with 3:38 left to edge Binghamton women's soccer (4-2-2) 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the Bearcats' final tuneup before conference play.
The loss snapped an 11-game home unbeaten streak in the regular season.
Cornell began to take over play in the second half and broke through when an initial shot from the left side banked off the far post, giving the Big Red an easy tap in rebound.
Binghamton was outshot 11-7 and didn't generate its normal volume of scoring chances.
"I was pleased with the level of play in the first half but unfortunately we had a drop in intensity and urgency in the second half ... so that's on us," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "We have to make sure we learn from this and can't let this happen in conference play. We'll move on and be in a better spot as we get ready to host Lowell next weekend. It's been a heavy week for all of us, in terms of the passing of Kayla (Saager-Beckley) so we just want to send our warm thoughts and offer our deepest sympathy and support to her family."
Binghamton will begin defense of its America East regular season title next Sunday when UMass Lowell comes to town.
